RELEASE: drennaLUNA returns to London to showcase during 2012 Olympics
Jamaica- Jamaican designer, Arlene L. Martin,
will showcase her latest drennaLUNA collection on August 4 at
Caribbean Export’s Grosvenor House, which represents its involvement in the
African Caribbean Business Expo in London. Martin will present her collection at the
event that launches the Grosvenor House activities along with other hand-picked
designers, including leading Caribbean designer Meiling of Trinidad and Tobago
and noted Haitian designer, David Andre, all of whom had runway shows at the
recent Caribbean Fashion Week.
Following the presentation of a resort
collection, 1975, at Caribbean Collections during London Fashion Week in
February of this year, Martin now presents for Spring/Summer 2013.
With Jamaica celebrating 50 years of
independence this August, the designer sought inspiration from her homeland in
recognition of this milestone. Arlene confesses that with so many inspirations,
this was possibly one of her most challenging and the longest time to deciding
on a collection. “I started with sketches representing our people and culture, moved
on to groupings based on our music through the five decades, and even played
with crochet experimented with hand-painted fabrics to represent our craft.” The designer finally settled on…Jamaica’s
indigenous butterflies and birds. The result is the use of light and airy
fabrics as well as vibrant colours.
Arlene sticks to her innovative designs and simple silhouettes to remain
true to the label while presenting an aspect of Jamaica.
Emerging from activities related to this
presentation, Martin is working towards representation and retailing in London,
which is a market she sees as one with women for whom drennaLUNA clothing are
perfectly suited.
Fashion Engage is an exclusive presentation which
will be attended by a select audience of European buyers, stylists, fashion
press and celebrities will take place at the Luxurious Grosvenor House Hotel
during the 2012 London Olympics.
